Texas latest News: Two possible players that will replace former Texas Star Barryn Sorrell, in 2025.

Barryn Sorrell’s tenure with the Texas Longhorns has come to an end, but he remains optimistic about the team’s future. Speaking at the NFL Combine on Wednesday, Sorrell highlighted two Texas players he believes are poised for success—defensive linemen Ethan Burke and Colton Vasek.

Sorrell, who recorded 44 tackles, 11 tackles for loss (TFLs), and six sacks last season, praised the depth of talent within the program. Burke, in his third season with Texas, contributed 27 tackles, nine TFLs, two sacks, and an interception. Vasek, who appeared in 11 games, added seven tackles, three TFLs, and two sacks.

“That’s the great thing about Texas—there are so many talented players coming up,” Sorrell said. “Guys like Colton Vasek and Ethan Burke are about to step into bigger roles.”

The Longhorns had a strong debut season in the SEC after moving from the Big 12 alongside Oklahoma. They finished the regular season 11-1 and advanced to the SEC Championship Game, where they lost a close battle to Georgia, 22-19, in overtime. Texas entered the College Football Playoff as the No. 5 seed, defeating Clemson (38-24) and Arizona State (39-31) to reach the semifinals. However, Ohio State ended their run with a 28-14 victory.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Texas will have an early opportunity for redemption as they face Ohio State in their opening game. The date and time for the matchup have yet to be announced.
