The Houston Texans are wasting no time preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft, and last week’s Combine in Indianapolis gave them a front-row seat to some of the nation’s top prospects. With evaluations in full swing, teams are starting to solidify their draft strategies—and for Houston, one intriguing scenario is gaining momentum.
A new mock draft from Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports presents an electrifying possibility: the Texans selecting standout wide receiver Emeka Egbuka in the first round. The move wouldn’t just add another weapon to Houston’s arsenal—it would reunite Egbuka with his former Ohio State quarterback, C.J. Stroud.
“Injuries at receiver decimated Houston’s offense last season, so reuniting C.J. Stroud with his old Buckeye teammate would be a valuable addition,” Easterling wrote.
After a promising season, the Texans are on the verge of taking their offense to the next level, and Egbuka could be the missing piece. While Nico Collins has established himself as a reliable target, Houston still needs a dynamic playmaker to stretch the field and keep defenses honest. Egbuka’s familiarity with Stroud is an undeniable advantage—one that could translate into instant chemistry on the field.
The talented wideout has already spoken about the connection he shares with Stroud, emphasizing how much it meant to him to hit 1,000 receiving yards with the young quarterback leading the charge. That chemistry could be exactly what Houston needs to ignite its passing attack.
Egbuka brings more than just familiarity—his skill set makes him an ideal fit for the Texans’ offense. A polished route runner with reliable hands, he has the ability to create separation and make tough catches in crucial moments. His presence alone would take pressure off Collins and the rest of Houston’s playmakers, giving Stroud another trusted target to rely on.
While Houston could certainly use reinforcements on the offensive line, the mock draft suggests that targeting a receiver early and addressing the O-line in the second round may be the smartest play. With guard Tyler Booker likely off the board before Houston’s selection, grabbing a game-changing wideout first could prove to be a strategic masterstroke.
If the Texans do pull the trigger on Egbuka, they wouldn’t just be drafting a receiver—they’d be reuniting a lethal QB-WR duo with the potential to wreak havoc on NFL defenses for years to come.
