The Philadelphia Eagles may be strapped for cash this offseason, but if history has taught us anything, it’s that general manager Howie Roseman is never afraid to make a bold move. With limited cap space following the major signings of Saquon Barkley and Zack Baun, many assumed the Eagles would be quiet in free agency. However, a shocking new possibility has emerged: Philadelphia could be a major contender for newly released Pro Bowl edge rusher Joey Bosa.
On March 6, SB Nation’s Mark Schofield, Joseph Acosta, and Kyle Posey identified the Eagles as one of the “biggest” potential suitors for Bosa, a move that would send shockwaves through the NFL.
“The Eagles are also set to lose some talent along the defensive line,” the trio noted. “Brandon Graham, who reportedly re-tore his triceps muscle in Super Bowl LIX, is expected to retire, and both Josh Sweat and Milton Williams are set to hit free agency.”
With Sweat likely commanding a massive contract elsewhere, Roseman could be looking to fill the impending void with a high-profile acquisition. Enter Bosa—a five-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Rookie of the Year—who suddenly finds himself on the open market after the Los Angeles Chargers released him on March 5 to clear $25.36 million in cap space.
Despite battling injuries in recent years, Bosa remains one of the league’s most dominant pass rushers. In the 2024 season alone, he recorded five sacks, 22 total tackles, five tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles. Over nine seasons with the Chargers, Bosa racked up 72 career sacks, proving time and again why he’s a premier defensive talent.
Adding Bosa to an already formidable Eagles defense would be a game-changing move. With Graham’s retirement looming and Sweat’s potential departure, Philadelphia faces a crucial decision—stick with what they have or make a statement by bringing in a pass-rushing juggernaut.
As free agency unfolds, all eyes will be on Roseman and the Eagles. Could they pull off yet another stunning acquisition? If Bosa lands in Philadelphia, it could redefine the NFC’s power balance and set the stage for a monstrous defensive resurgence. Stay tuned—this story is just getting started.
