Miami Latest update: Mario Cristobal Delivers Bold ‘1 of 1’ Statement on Cam Ward, Hinting at Miami’s Next Star QB.

The University of Miami (FL) has not produced a No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft since 1991, when Russell Maryland was selected. The last Hurricanes quarterback to achieve that distinction was Vinny Testaverde in 1987. Now, Cam Ward is emerging as a potential top pick, and head coach Mario Cristobal is fully backing him with a strong “one of one” endorsement.

Ward participated in Miami’s Pro Day, held at the Coral Gables campus, with Cristobal present to observe his performance and interact with NFL personnel.

Following the workout, Cristobal spoke with the NFL Network and was asked why Ward should be the top pick in the 2025 draft. Cristobal responded candidly.

“Well first I would ask if they watched film of him at all this year,” Cristobal said. “If they have, I think the decision would be a lot easier.”

He then went on to make a compelling pitch to teams evaluating Ward.

“He’s 1 of 1. Not only as a player but as a person,” Cristobal emphasized.

Cristobal’s endorsement comes as the Tennessee Titans sent a significant contingent of representatives to scout Ward and the Hurricanes’ Pro Day, signaling strong interest in the rising quarterback prospect.
