Linebacker Kristian Welch Returns to the Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Kristian Welch for a second stint with the team, as announced on Friday. Welch, 26, previously played for Green Bay in 2023, and his return marks another chapter in his NFL journey.
Career Highlights and Stats
Last season, Welch split his time between the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens. He appeared in six games for Denver and nine for Baltimore, starting once for each team. During his time with the Ravens, he managed to recover a fumble. In 2023, Welch initially joined the Packers’ practice squad but was later promoted to the active roster. He went on to participate in 12 regular-season games and two playoff matches. Though he didn’t take any defensive snaps that year, he played nearly 50% of Green Bay’s special-teams plays, recording six tackles.
Over his NFL career, Welch has played in 72 regular-season games. On defense, he has made 13 tackles, while contributing 27 more on special teams. The former Iowa Hawkeye began his professional career as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Ravens in 2020. He remained with Baltimore through the 2022 season before his initial stint with the Packers.
