Good News for the Hurricanes: Another highly rated Fort Myers High School player, Who had been committed to Louisville, decommitted following his unofficial visit to Miami last weekend.

The Miami Hurricanes are gaining momentum in their recruiting efforts as they hosted a major on-campus pool party on Saturday, following their first spring scrimmage. Several recruits and their families attended the event, including Joel Ervin, a highly coveted offensive lineman from Fort Myers High School. During the visit, Ervin informed the Miami coaching staff that he was ending his recruitment by committing to the Hurricanes.

Ervin had previously been committed to Louisville for just over two weeks but decided to reopen his recruitment after an unofficial visit to Miami the prior weekend. The three-star offensive tackle chose the Hurricanes over offers from several top programs, including Georgia, Florida, Florida State, USC, and his former choice, Louisville. His commitment marks Miami’s fourth in March and seventh overall in this recruiting cycle. Ervin also becomes the second offensive lineman in the class, joining Ben Congdon, who committed on March 3.

During his visit, Ervin had the opportunity to watch Miami’s scrimmage and was particularly impressed by offensive line coach Alex Mirabal. Ervin praised Mirabal’s coaching style and his ability to translate film-room lessons into on-field execution. “These guys are great. Just what [Alex Mirabal] teaches in the film room and then applies to the field, it’s just great. There’s not a better feeling than watching what an offensive line coach is putting in front of you and it translating to the field,” Ervin said of Mirabal’s coaching.

The combination of Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and Mirabal is known for developing offensive line talent with a proven track record of producing NFL-caliber players. During their time at Oregon, they helped shape several future NFL draft picks, including Penei Sewell, Jackson Powers-Johnson, and Alex Forsyth. This reputation for developing pro-level linemen likely played a significant role in attracting Ervin to Miami.

Ervin’s commitment adds further strength to Miami’s growing 2025 recruiting class. With their recent recruiting success, the Hurricanes are building momentum as they aim to reestablish themselves as a powerhouse program. The addition of Ervin bolsters their offensive line depth and showcases their ability to secure highly sought-after talent.
