Packers Latest Update: Packers’ First-Round Pick Poised for a Shocking Career Twist.

The Green Bay Packers are facing crucial decisions regarding their offensive line, particularly in determining their long-term left tackle. With Zach Tom, Rasheed Walker, and Sean Rhyan set to hit free agency in 2026, the team may struggle to retain all three. As a result, Green Bay appears to be preparing for a potential transition by positioning another lineman to take on a significant role. Major changes could be on the horizon for the offensive line, and the competition for the left tackle position is just the start.

During the Annual Owners Meeting on Tuesday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Jordan Morgan will compete with Rasheed Walker for the left tackle spot. LaFleur expressed confidence in the competition, emphasizing that the two players will push each other to improve. “It’s going to be a great competition,” LaFleur stated. “Certainly, it’s something we feel like (Morgan) can do. Otherwise, we wouldn’t do it. So we’ll let them battle it out and see where it goes.”

Morgan was selected by Green Bay with the 25th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Last season, he played 186 offensive snaps—185 at guard and one as an in-line tight end. Appearing in six games, he allowed seven pressures but did not give up a sack before being sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury.

One of the Packers’ biggest challenges will be retaining their starting tackles beyond the 2025 season. Zach Tom is expected to command a lucrative contract that could set a new benchmark for right tackles. Green Bay will likely prioritize making him the highest-paid player at his position. Meanwhile, if Walker delivers another strong season, he could argue for a top-tier left tackle salary. The market for offensive tackles continues to rise, as evidenced by the Tennessee Titans recently signing Dan Moore Jr. to a deal averaging $20.5 million per year, despite Moore being considered a lesser player.

Given these financial realities, the Packers are proactively considering their future options. Morgan’s potential transition to left tackle could provide an alternative solution if Walker becomes too expensive to retain. This upcoming competition will be critical in shaping the team’s offensive line moving forward. If Morgan proves capable of handling the position, Green Bay might have its answer for the future—while also maintaining financial flexibility.
