Virginia Tech quarterback Davi Belfort is reportedly planning to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens officially tomorrow. Belfort, currently a redshirt freshman, recently showcased his potential during Virginia Tech’s spring game, completing 7 of 11 passes for 51 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 36 yards. His performance in the scrimmage added to the intrigue surrounding his next move.
Belfort entered college with significant hype, being a former Under Armour All-American. Coming out of high school, he attracted offers from many top football programs across the country, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, and Texas A&M, among others. Despite the high volume of interest, he chose to join Virginia Tech but now seems to be seeking a new opportunity elsewhere.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Belfort was rated as the 50th-best quarterback nationally and was considered a three-star recruit. His football background is complemented by a unique personal story—he is the son of former MMA star Vitor Belfort. Initially part of the 2025 recruiting class, he made the decision in 2022 to reclassify and graduate early, transferring to Miami’s Gulliver Prep to begin his junior year ahead of schedule. Though he missed some high school games due to injury, Belfort still managed to compile 2,300 yards of total offense and scored 16 touchdowns that season. Analysts have described him as an undersized but highly competitive quarterback, capable of turning heads with moments of impressive play. He has a reputation for being a gritty, mobile quarterback who can make plays on the move, especially in situations where he is forced to escape pressure. Belfort’s mechanics are noted to be compact and efficient, allowing him to release the ball quickly. While he excels in improvisational situations, he still has room to grow as a consistent passer and will need to continue adjusting to the speed and complexity of the college game. His playing style seems best suited to a spread offense that utilizes play-action, which would maximize his mobility and decision-making skills. As Belfort prepares to enter the transfer portal, he becomes an intriguing prospect for programs in need of a dynamic and versatile quarterback.
