HUGE SETBACK: Hookies has Lost 3 Fans Favorite Top Stars To this Spring Transfer Portal. Coach Brent Pry and his staff have some work to do

As the spring transfer portal window progresses, more Virginia Tech football players are opting to enter the portal in search of new opportunities for the fall season. This shift creates added urgency for head coach Brent Pry and his staff, who now need to fill roster gaps by bringing in new talent through the portal. With spring practices for the 2025 season wrapped up, the Hokies’ coaching staff is shifting focus to recruiting efforts both on the road and in Blacksburg, where they are set to host several key transfer prospects.

Three significant transfer players are preparing for visits to Virginia Tech, each of whom could bolster the roster and provide valuable depth heading into the 2025 campaign.

First up is Jesus Machado, a standout linebacker from Tulane. Although he missed the 2024 season after suffering a torn ACL during the Military Bowl in December 2023 — a game ironically played against the Hokies — Machado had previously made a name for himself as Tulane’s leading tackler and a second-team All-AAC selection. He is scheduled to visit Virginia Tech on Monday and will head to Houston the following day. With Virginia Tech recently losing linebacker Jaden McDonald to the transfer portal, Machado could be a crucial addition for new defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes, bringing experience and playmaking ability to the linebacker corps.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Hokies are looking to shore up a struggling offensive line unit. Following the departure of former offensive line coach Ron Crook, Matt Moore was brought in from West Virginia to overhaul the line. One of the top targets in this area is Maryland transfer Terez Davis. The 6-foot-4, 289-pound lineman played 292 snaps at left tackle as a true freshman for the Terrapins last season. Davis is becoming a hot commodity in the transfer market and is expected to visit Virginia Tech after a trip to Ole Miss. His experience and potential would make him a vital piece for Moore’s rebuilding efforts.

Virginia Tech is also expecting a visit from another Big Ten lineman: JB Nelson from Penn State. Nelson brings versatility and experience, having played in 31 games and started eight during his time with the Nittany Lions. His ability to play multiple positions along the offensive line adds significant value, offering Moore flexibility to fill gaps and rotate linemen as needed. These visits represent critical opportunities for Virginia Tech to enhance their roster as they navigate the ever-active transfer portal and gear up for a competitive 2025 season.
