New NFL Mock Draft: Texans Select Top SEC WR
When the Houston Texans are on the clock at number 23, what do they do? One mock draft suggests that adding a weapon to C.J. Stroud, the Offensive Rookie of the Year, might be the wisest course of action.
The Texans add Brian Thomas Jr. of LSU, a proven pass-catcher, to complement rookie sensation Tank Dell and breakout star Nico Collins in the most recent NFL.com mock draft. Rumor has it that Houston will be looking to add a receiver in the summer.
In the highest-scoring offense in college football, Thomas, as the No. 2 option, produced stats that suggested No. 1 potential. With 1,117 yards and a career-high 17 touchdowns, the 6-4 Louisiana native hauled in touchdown throws from Heisman finalist Jayden Daniels.
Playing the role of Robin to fellow first-round pick Malik Nabers, Thomas finished fourth in receiving yards and catches (68) and led the SEC in receiving touchdowns. Among eligible receivers, his 17.8 yards per reception put him in sixth place. Due to injury worries, Houston, which ranked seventh in passing, needs to think about adding at least one target.
Dell recently suffered a leg break that ended his season. Since being selected out of Michigan in the 2021 NFL Draft, Collins, who became the third receiver in franchise history to record over 1,200 receiving yards in a single season, has missed 12 games.
