Following a thrilling victory over Kentucky in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, fans flooded the floor, leading to a $100,000 fine for LSU for breaking the SEC’s “access to competition area” guideline.
The fine is a component of the updated SEC policy that was implemented last year and mandates that fines must now be paid to the opposing institution. It also dramatically increased the financial penalties. As of right now, the fines were $100,000 for the first crime, $250,000 for the second, and $500,000 for the third and any further infractions.
Tyrell Ward’s short floater with seconds remaining on Wednesday gave LSU the victory, finishing a 17-point comeback victory over No. 17 Kentucky. The Tigers defeated No. 11 South Carolina on Saturday after overcoming an 18-point deficit, their second straight comeback victory.
