The New York Yankees have already bolstered their roster with stars Max Fried, Devin Williams, Paul Goldschmidt, and Cody Bellinger. However, they may not be done making moves ahead of Opening Day. Fireside Yankees, part of Empire Sports Media, proposed a blockbuster trade idea to bring Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa to the Bronx:
Yankees receive:
- SS Carlos Correa
Twins receive:
- INF George Lombard Jr. (No. 3 prospect)
- RHP Chase Hampton (No. 6 prospect)
- RHP Ian Hamilton
- C/1B Rafael Flores
Fireside Yankees highlighted Correa’s skill set, stating, “He is a great all-around hitter who can drive the ball to all fields while playing elite defense. Moving him to third base could reduce wear and tear on his lower body, making it easier for him to stay healthy.”
Correa, a three-time All-Star and Platinum Glove winner, signed a six-year, $200 million deal with the Twins in 2023, which includes vesting options through 2032. Adding him to the Yankees’ lineup would allow Jazz Chisholm Jr. to slot into second base, resolving their infield configuration issues.
While Minnesota’s front office, led by Derek Falvey and Jeremy Zoll, has indicated they are not actively shopping players like Correa, they remain open to trade discussions. “We’re open to being creative,” Falvey noted at the Winter Meetings. “We can’t rule anything out before we hear it, no matter who the player is.”
Acquiring Correa would cost the Yankees two of their top-10 prospects, but his elite performance on both sides of the ball justifies the potential sacrifice. However, Correa’s controversial past as a member of the 2017 Houston Astros—a team involved in the infamous sign-stealing scandal—may divide Yankees fans. The scandal played a role in knocking New York out of the postseason, and Correa’s arrival could stir mixed emotions in the Bronx.
