Buffalo Update: The NFL salary cap increased by $30 million to $255.4 million in 2024.

The Buffalo Bills are still a financially troubled team going into the 2024 NFL season, but on Friday it was revealed that the league-record $255.4 million salary limit will be in place for this season—a far larger amount than was first projected.

In today’s Buffalo Rumblinks, we look at the new salary cap number and discuss why it is good news for the Bills and their general manager, Brandon Beane, who will be able to fine-tune the squad with a little assistance.

NFL pay cap is greater than expected
The announcement that the 2024 salary ceiling will increase by more than $30 million from the previous year to a record-high of $255.4 million for the following season was a welcome surprise for Bills supporters, as many NFL analysts had predicted it would come in around $242 million.

The Bills are now $41.7 million over the cap as opposed to about $54 million due to the increase in salary cap space. Brandon Beane still has a lot of work ahead of him to become Buffalo cap compliant and create enough budget room to take care of the team’s roster needs.

There are seven clubs that are over the cap, including the Bills. By March 13, they have to reduce their cap amount to less than $255.4 million.
