The Green Bay Packers traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets only days before the 2023 NFL draft.
The acquisition instantly provided the Jets a “Super Bowl window” as long as Rodgers was at quarterback. However, a ruptured Achilles put that opportunity on wait for a year.
With the 2024 season approaching, the Jets are hoping to climb back into title contention. However, they may be doing so with a new head coach.
Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers might be looking for a new head coach in New York.
According to Paul Esden of Heavy On Jets:
The NFL head coaching cycle has come to an end in 2024, or has it?
ESPN’s Aaron Schatz boldly predicted in a column posted on Friday, February 23, that the New York Jets will fire head coach Robert Saleh and replace him with Mike Vrabel.
“The musical chairs halted without a spot for former Titans coach Mike Vrabel, whose termination came as a surprise. There are too many strong head-coaching prospects on the market, as well as too many last-chance coaches, entering the 2024 season.
Why not just make the change now? The Jets could jettison a coach with an 18-33 career record in exchange for a coach who has already had success,” Schatz explained. “Vrabel had winning records in four of his six seasons in Tennessee, including leading the Titans to the No. 1 seed in 2021 despite a myriad of injuries.”
While it is a compelling argument, the Jets aren’t moving on from Robert Saleh this off-season. However, this is a very likely scenario if the Jets flounder again in 2024 with Rodgers under contract.
To maintain continuity with Aaron Rodgers and the team they have, Jets owner Woody Johnson wants to keep Saleh and Douglas (GM) on board.
“As I mentioned a year ago, we need a quarterback. We had a quarterback for four plays. “We haven’t been able to replace him since,” Johnson said. “Having a good quarterback makes everyone’s job easier.” It improves both the line and the receivers.
