On Tuesday afternoon, general manager Andrew Berry and executive vice president of football operations for the Cleveland Browns addressed the media.
“For the past several weeks, we’ve really spent most of our time just kind of examining our operations to A to Z,” Berry explained. “As this is essentially our first look at the draft class in Indianapolis, we’re quite excited to be here. It’s always a really exciting time for us on the college scouting side because we get to spend some time face to face and get to know guys who we’ve been scouting and trying to get to know over the past two years more intimately.”
The organization will begin hosting several draft-eligible players in Berea for an official visit after meeting with prospects in Indianapolis over the course of the following week.
The team recruited former Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey to take over as offensive coordinator after losing to the Houston Texans in the AFC wild-card round. Alex Van Pelt was fired by the organization. Prior to the combine, the team has been integrating the new employees.
“It’s also been really neat over the past several weeks just to integrate Ken and our new offensive coaches, see that staff come together and the work that they’ve done really early in this offseason has been excellent so we come in and really look for a mind for improvement and that really has to be our focus every season regardless of how we end because it’s a really competitive league and we have 31 other competitors doing the exact same thing.”
UPDATE ON DESHAUN WATSON
Deshaun Watson, the starting quarterback for the Browns, had a rotator cuff injury in his throwing arm during the third week of the NFL season. Watson didn’t return to the field until week seven after suffering an injury that was supposed to keep him out of action for a few weeks.
After making a comeback in week seven, Watson experienced a fresh and distinct ailment that necessitated season-ending surgery: a displaced fracture to the glenoid in his right shoulder, as revealed by an MRI in mid-November.
Watson is almost ready to start throwing the football again. He is now recovering from his injuries outside of Cleveland.
Berry stated, “Deshaun will start throwing next month.” “He has put in a ton of effort into his rehabilitation and healing. He’s got everything he needs. He’s making great progress, and we can’t wait to see it continue when spring arrives and we can get him out on the field.”
Berry restated that Watson is close to returning to throwing, but he would not guarantee Watson’s availability for summer activities.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Berry also revealed that the team will be conducting joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings in Berea and returning to The Greenbriar for this training camp.
