As the new league year draws near, the Buffalo Bills have made a significant contract adjustment. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network has reported that Buffalo modified offensive tackle Connor McGovern’s contract to free up approximately $3.7 million. Prior to the trade, the Bills were almost $43 million over the cap.
“The Bills did a conversion on OL Connor McGovern’s contract, guaranteeing his deal for 2024 and clearing $3.74M,” Pelissero wrote on Twitter. Spotrac claims that McGovern received a signing bonus as a result of this “conversion”. “The Bills converted $4.675M of OL Connor McGovern’s 2024 base salary into signing bonus, adding 2 void years, clearing $3.74M of cap space this season,” Spotrac wrote on Twitter. McGovern, who was originally selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, inked a $22.35 million, three-year contract with Buffalo in March 2023. Despite battling injuries prior to his first season with the Bills, he managed to participate in all 17 games of the previous campaign.
