In 2007, Teheran signed a contract as an international free agent with the Braves. The new Orioles addition seemed ready for early career stardom as a pitcher.

In his first full season with the Braves, the Colombian right-hander finished seventh in the NL Rookie of the Year voting with a 3.20 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 30 starts. After that, he had an All-Star 2014 season, cutting his ERA to 2.89 with 33 starts and 186 strikeouts.

At the young age of 25, Teheran was selected for his second All-Star team in 2016. However, after that season, Teheran deteriorated to become a middle-of-the-rotation starter, with an ERA that lingered around 4.00 from 2017 to 2019.

After forgettable spells with the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels, Teheran entered the Milwaukee Brewers rotation for the previous campaign. Due to a nagging right hip ailment, Teheran only appeared in 14 games (11 starts) for the Brewers, going 3-5 with an ERA of 4.40.

This offseason, the Orioles have prioritized pitching. In order to strengthen their rotation, they have already acquired Corbin Burnes, a past Cy Young winner, and have subsequently been connected to another elite pitcher.
