Bills GM provides a clear statement on the potential return of All-Pro Safety.
It’s possible that the Buffalo Bills aren’t prepared to let go of Micah Hyde.
After playing for the Buffalo Bills for the previous seven seasons, the All-Pro safety is entering free agency. He has made it clear that his time with the team is over. Although Hyde’s departure seems certain, general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott of the Bills made strong remarks this week regarding Hyde’s possible 2024 return.
Bills for Micah Hyde Are Still High
McDermott made it apparent to reporters at this week’s NFL combine that the Bills remained very high on Hyde.
“Micah makes people smile when you say it around Buffalo,” McDermott remarked, as reported by SI.com. He has significantly impacted both the neighborhood and our organization. He is a gentleman both in Buffalo and the NFL. I have nothing but praise for Micah Hyde.
Beane also expressed his love for Hyde, who has anchored the secondary since signing with the Bills the same week in 2017 alongside fellow All-Pro safety Jordan Poyer. Beane took it a step further and stated that he would not rule out Hyde returning for the upcoming season.
“With excellent athletes, you never want to part ways. According to SI.com, Beane stated, “I’ve been in the league for 26, 27, years, and I’ve never seen a safety duo play together for seven seasons.” “It’s amazing to play seven seasons in this era of free agency. I doubt that you will ever find a tandem as good as that, whether it is this year or next. We’ve had too much.”
Beane stated that he didn’t want to make a snap choice because he was still waiting to hear from Hyde. The general manager of the Bills acknowledged that the money aspect needed to be resolved for Hyde to return, and he added that he intended to meet with his agent during the combine. Beane has issued a warning, saying that the Bills won’t be making any significant free agent acquisitions as the team enters the new league season about $40 million above the salary cap.
Hyde returned to start 14 games in the previous season after missing the majority of 2022 due to a neck ailment. In that season, he totaled 54 tackles, two interceptions, and seven passes defensed.

It seems like Hyde’s family is ready to consider leaving Buffalo. His wife said goodbye to followers on Instagram shortly after the season ended, sharing an emotional message.
