Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has stepped outside his usual baseball focus to address the devastating southern California wildfires, which have claimed 25 lives so far.
Ohtani, who has spent his entire MLB career in the Los Angeles area—starting with the Angels in 2018 before joining the Dodgers last season—delivered an unforgettable debut season for his new team. He made history by becoming the first player in MLB to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season.
The Dodgers, who defeated the New York Yankees to claim the World Series title, are strong contenders to repeat as champions in 2025.
However, with the ongoing wildfires, many in Los Angeles, including Ohtani, have turned their attention away from baseball.
“We are extremely grateful to the firefighters who continue to fight for us during the LA fires. We will donate $500,000 to these firefighters, those who have been forced to evacuate, and animals in need of support,” Ohtani shared on Instagram.
