Bryan Reynolds gave the Pirates a 6-4 lead with his first hit of the spring, a two-run home drive to center field, two innings after Hayes leveled the score at four all. Pittsburgh added two more runs when catching prospect Abrahan Gutierrez slugged a two-run home drive to left center with two outs. Shortly after Gutierrez, another youngster, Jackson Glenn, gave the Pirates back-to-back home runs with a big ball of his own.
Starter Marco Gonzales of the Pirates allowed the Braves (1-3) to score three runs. David Fletcher scored a run off of Gonzales with a base hit, while Sean Murphy collected two RBI singles. Luke Williams’ single to center field in the third inning gave Atlanta a 4-0 advantage.
