It is appropriate to treat Caitlin Clark and the WNBA like the professionals that they are.
As Caitlin Clark arrived in Indianapolis on Wednesday morning to be officially welcomed as an Indiana Fever member, the team was preparing to reveal the No. 1 overall pick in Monday night’s WNBA draft. Her fans erupted in cheers. Christie Sides, her new head coach, was pumping her fists. Even donuts had Clark’s new Fever jersey iced on them. Given Clark’s generational talent, one would expect a certain amount of pomp and circumstance.
However, what was shocking—and quite out of place—for such a moment were the remarks made by a journalist to Clark at her very first Indianapolis news conference as a professional basketball player.
