Great news: Patrick Mahomes was just given a subject as the next..

Patrick Mahomes is a candidate for “best male athlete” at the ESPY Awards.

The Chiefs quarterback will have an opportunity to win one of the top individual honors at ESPN’s yearly awards ceremony.

At ESPN’s 27th annual ESPYS awards, Patrick Mahomes, the current AP NFL Most Valuable Player, will have two more chances to add hardware to his collection.

For his 2018 campaign, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs was nominated for “Best NFL Player” and “Best Male Athlete.”

Mahomes’ opponents in both categories are as follows:

Nominees for “Best Male Athlete”

  • Mahomes, Patrick, Kansas City Chiefs
  • Boston Red Sox’s Mookie Betts
  • NBA player Giannis Antetokounmpo
  • Golfer Brooks Koepka

Nominees for “Best NFL Player”

  • Mahomes, Patrick, Kansas City Chiefs
  • Aaron Donald, member of the Rams
  • The Los Angeles Rams’ Todd Gurley
  • The New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees

Given that Mahomes is the only NFL player nominated for “Best Male Athlete,” it seems logical that he should win “Best NFL Player.” Vote on that award here.

No offense to Koepka, but “Best Male Athlete” feels like a three-man race between Mahomes, Betts and Antetokounmpo.

The Chiefs, led by Mahomes, are also up for an ESPY award, specifically for “Best Game,” for their thrilling Monday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, which they lost 54-51.
