Now that the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs have entered their first round, it is time for another round of NHL rumors. While some teams compete fiercely for the Stanley Cup, the losers are attempting to determine their next course of action. Some general managers must figure out how to retain their players while striking a balance with the salary cap. It is possible that other general managers are still in the midst of switching coaches. Crosby will be in the final year of his contract in the 2024–25 season. However, he can sign a contract extension on July 1. Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, is expected to receive a pay increase in part because of his $8.7 million salary.
Friedman speculated that the future Hall of Famer would likely fetch a two- or three-year deal that would net him around $10.5 million. Crosby’s cap hit will be somewhat offset by the increase that he’ll likely get. The superstar promised to discuss a new contract with the Penguins general manager, but until the final framework is in place, things will probably remain quiet.
Pittsburgh did not make it to the postseason this year, but it does not appear that they will give up. The roster and salary cap are two things that the Penguins will need to adjust. Dubas undoubtedly wants to give Crosby one more fair shot at winning the Stanley Cup, though.
Some intriguing news includes the possibility that Kris Letang will be sidelined for some time. In addition, where do the Penguins place Alex Nedeljkovic or Tristan Jarry in goal? This offseason, Dubas has a lot of tasks to complete with the Penguins.
