Breaking News: Mitch Marner has been getting all of the blame for the Toronto Maple Leafs’ shortcomings

Mitch Marner has taken all the blame for the Toronto Maple Leafs’ shortcomings. Why is that the case, exactly? I am clueless. Today, I breakdown just how good Marner has been for this Leafs team over the last few NHL playoff runs.

Misguided Blame: Mitch Marner for Maple Leafs Playoff Issues

Toronto Maple Leaf fans analyze Mitch Marner’s performance every year, but this year the slander has reached entirely new heights.

It seemed like the whole hockey community decided to hop on the Marner hate train in order to garner some clicks and likes on the internet after Marner’s tantrum on the Maple Leafs bench in game four of this series against the Boston Bruins.

Even though I will admit that I did not like how Marner looked when he threw his gloves like a kid, it does not make me think any differently about him as a player.

Yes, Marner has historically underperformed during the playoffs, but that was a long time ago.

Marner has finished his last 22 playoff games with 24 points. Playing against the hardest opponent every night results in a pace of 1.09 points per game. Compared to his 1.27 point-per-game average during his final three regular-season games, this playoff average is marginally lower.
