REPORT: Pete Carroll Eyeing Current Seahawks Assistant For Raiders Defensive Coordinator Position

Pete Carroll, the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, is now putting together his coaching staff, and his old team may be a good fit for the defensive coordinator position.

According to a Monday report by CBS Sports analyst Jonathan Jones, the Raiders have asked to interview Karl Scott, an assistant for the Seattle Seahawks, for the position of defensive coordinator. Scott has been on the Seahawks coaching staff since 2022 and was the only Carroll assistant (not counting strength and conditioning) retained by Mike Macdonald when he was hired as head coach.

In 2022, Scott will serve as the Seahawks’ defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach. In addition to the growth of corner-turned-safety Coby Bryant, Scott has been in charge of the development of corners Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen.

Although it is generally assumed that Carroll will seek for recognizable names to serve as his assistants, this reported interview does not guarantee that Scott will be the Raiders’ next defensive coordinator. The fact that the only Carroll relic from the Macdonald era is viewed as a DC option in Vegas is not surprising. In addition, former Seahawks DCs Kris Richard and Gus Bradley would undoubtedly be considered as potential alternatives if Scott isn’t selected.

We’ll monitor this to determine whether the Seahawks require a new backup  coach soon.
