Huge boost for Newcastle as 20-year old star returns to training ahead of Forest encounter

A Newcastle United youngster has been pictured in first-team training ahead of the trip to Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Newcastle United - Amadou Diallo

Anthony Gordon’s absence from Newcastle’s Premier League match is a major worry, as the winger left St. James’ Park on crutches last Saturday.

In addition to being absent from the team’s workout photos, 20-year-old Amadou Diallo was also there and might have an impact on Gordon’s absence.

Newcastle academy product could make second appearance vs Forest

In the last minutes of Newcastle’s 4-1 triumph over Chelsea at St. James’ Park earlier this season, Diallo made his debut for the first team.

The 20-year-old has also made numerous appearances off the bench, but he hasn’t done so since the team’s 3-0 loss to Everton in December, when injuries nearly destroyed them.

However, Gordon’s injury may prevent him from playing this weekend, although Eddie Howe believes it is not at all serious, so Diallo may be back on the bench.

Indeed, there remains hope that the £45 million player could somehow because he was sighted in the Metro Center earlier this week without his protective boot on.

Newcastle are using more of their young players than ever

In the past, Newcastle’s academy was essentially worthless because so few players ever made it into the starting lineup, and those who did were usually picked off by larger teams.

Nevertheless, Howe has occasionally been forced to look to his academy to find some backup players who haven’t played many minutes but have required to be on standby due to this apparently never-ending injury crisis.

The most obvious example of a player who has achieved success is Lewis Miley, but this season’s first team has also included players like Alex Murphy, Ben Parkinson, and Diallo.

A few others have yet to play a game but have appeared on the bench; however, given Newcastle’s injury history this season, there is still a good chance they will receive another chance.
