Buffalo is bolstering their defensive line with another hire Matt Edwards has joined the Bills as an assistant defensive line coach.
Edwards served as a defensive assistant and pass rush specialist coach with the Raiders for the previous two seasons. Coached defensive end Maxx Crosby to consecutive seasons with ten or more sacks, including a career-high 14.5 in 2023.
Edwards played a variety of positions on the Titans staff before to taking on the role as head coach in Vegas. In 2018 he began as an assistant special teams coach, moved to defensive assistant in 2020, and served as Tennessee’s assistant special teams coach during his final season there.
Before his time in the NFL, Edwards spent 15 seasons coaching at the college level. He was the defensive coordinator for Tiffin University from 2014-2017, the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator for Florida Atlantic University in 2013, spent 2011-2012 at Miami of Ohio as the defensive ends coach, linebackers coach and special teams coordinator and was the defensive line coach for Kent State from 2006-2010. Edwards began his coaching career in 2003 at the College of Wooster as their linebackers coach.
Edwards was a defensive end and linebacker for Miami of Ohio during his collegiate career. His hometown is Cincinnati, Ohio.
