Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw’s stomping by the Padres after the deadline was awful for a fresh start
The Padres would have definitely done it Friday night if they hadn’t previously learned their lesson from the previous time they put up a sobbing Clayton Kershaw meme at the Petco scoreboard. The Dodgers suffered a heartbreaking walk-off loss in their first game against the Padres on Tuesday, but once the trade deadline passed and August arrived, LA ought to have used it as a chance to regroup.
Even though Kershaw had only made one start since returning from injury, he was scheduled to start Game 2 on the mound, so that alone should have fans thrilled.
Nope! Kershaw had one of his worst lines of the season by the time the Padres thrashed the Dodgers 8-1. For the first time in his 17-year career, he did not strike out a single hitter in just 3 2/3 innings while giving up six hits and seven runs (just three earned).
The Dodgers, however, managed just two further hits through nine innings and scored just one run off of a double by Gavin Lux.
