According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Padres have selected experienced coach Mike Shildt to be their new manager.
Having previously coached the Cardinals from 2018 to 2021, this will be Shildt’s second big league managerial position. During that time, Shildt managed St. Louis to 90 wins in two complete seasons and had winning records in the shorter ’20 season as well as after taking over in the middle of the 2018 season.
including the Cardinals, the veteran went 252-199 overall, including one NLCS trip in 2019. However, the team let him go after a Wild Card berth in 2021. He became an assistant coach with the Padres last season.
