ESPN NEWS: Russell Wilson gets big opportunity to win Steelers QB competition out of.

Russell Wilson, the quarterback from the Denver Broncos, will have a strong opportunity to win this weekend’s Steelers quarterback battle.

Due to a calf injury, Wilson has missed the preseason. On Saturday night, he will start for Pittsburgh against the Buffalo Bills. When the Steelers kick off the regular season, he and Justin Fields will be fighting for the starting quarterback position.

Following a combined practice with Buffalo on Thursday, Pittsburgh’s head coach Mike Tomlin made the announcement.

Many believed that Wilson would start for the Steelers at all costs, but Fields has shown well in training camp, and as late as Thursday, the two shared drills with the starting offense.

Of course, many Broncos supporters would like to see Wilson start when Pittsburgh visits Denver in Week 2. mostly to make fun of Wilson, who had two unsuccessful seasons in the Mile High City. This summer, head coach Sean Payton fired Wilson, incurring the biggest dead salary cap penalty in NFL history.

Wilson, who has been recovering from a calf injury since the evening before the Steelers’ first training camp session, talked about playing cautiously on Saturday in typical Wilson way.

Wilson told reporters, “I don’t play with fear.” “Never have I. It is a sophisticated game that you play like any other. You need to be aware of when to slide, get down, and go out of bounds, among other things.

Wilson, though, has a tremendous potential here. Tomlin may be inclined to start him if he does well on his four offensive series with the starting lineup. Wilson did not play in Pittsburgh’s opening preseason game because Fields struggled.

Wilson’s injury didn’t help, but the fact that he is still competing this late in camp doesn’t bode well for his future as a reliable starter in the NFL.

Although they undoubtedly don’t have high hopes for Wilson, Broncos Country would like to see him play Denver in Week 2. And for the Broncos to win with a number of turnovers and sacks.
