Las Vegas Raiders add Antonio Pierce’s son to coaching staff to what is a controversial nepo baby hiring

It didn’t take long for Antonio Pierce, who is now the official full-time head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, to emulate legendary coaches like Mike Shanahan and Bill Belichick by adding a few somewhat contentious but standard members to his staff.

This past season, Antonio Pierce found himself in a challenging role after being selected as the head coach to clean up Josh McDaniels’ mess after serving as the Raiders linebackers coach. The 45-year-old persisted and wowed even though it felt like the cards were stacked against him.

The squad defeated division rivals in a few key victories towards the end of the season, finishing 5-4 overall. Pierce’s transition from interim to full-time head coach in January was aided by his good finish and the respect the team and fans had for him.

After gaining complete control and assembling his team as he pleases, the head coach of Las Vegas has already thrown himself into a contentious staff-building custom. According to a story published on Wednesday by Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal Raiders, Pierce has appointed his son DeAndre as one of his new assistant offensive coaches.

“DeAndre Pierce joins the Raiders after serving as the defensive coordinator at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for the 2023 campaign. In high school, he played for his father at Arizona State and Long Beach Poly. From 2020 to 2022, his father served as the defensive coordinator for the Sun Devils. At Arizona State, he was a defensive back, according to Bonsignore.

In just two years, the younger Pierce will move from being an undrafted football player to an assistant coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. Having individuals in high positions, especially parents, is truly a pleasant thing. This brings the total number of nepo infants in NFL history even higher.
